Nocturnal Fauna Monitoring (10-12)-Perth Metro

Suitable for Years 10 to 12
Explore the innovative monitoring techniques used by Western Shield and DBCA to study nocturnal fauna.
Students will set light traps to investigate and identify invertebrates, and use camera and sand traps as alternative methods for tracking fauna. The program also includes a discussion on animal ethics and its role within the department and scientific research.
Schools will receive invertebrate samples and motion-sensor images on USB for further study. Collected data can be used as a post-excursion activity to develop a Fauna Management Plan for the Centre.

Duration: 4 hours (3 evening, 1 morning), camping or staying close to the centre is recommended

- This session has a late finish and early start time, in line with sunset and sunrise times. We recommend you stay close to the Perth Hills Discovery Centre.
