Life Amongst the Mangroves
- Duration: 2 Hours (approx.)
- Location: Bunbury 6230 WA
During this excursion, students learn about the natural and man-made processes which have contributed to the current landscape of the Leschenault Inlet and Koombana Bay and in particular the formation and modification of the Leschenault Inlet, now known as Mangrove Cove.
Students will make observations of the area surrounding the mangroves, and consider the wider landscape, to identify threats to the health of the system and the impacts this might have beyond the immediate area. They will propose actions we could take to guard against these threats.
They will learn about the ecology of the Mangroves and the foodchains they support, collecting and examining the macroinvertebrates which inhabit their waters to establish a measure of ecosystem health.
This program addresses a range of curriculum outcomes, particularly in the learning areas of Science and HASS/Geography and will be delivered at an age appropriate level. It would be an ideal complement to a visit to the Dolphin Discovery Centre.
COST: $14.00 per student. Duration 2 hours.
