Aquatic ecosystems (11-12)-Perth Metro

  • Duration: 4 Hours (approx.)

Suitable for years 11&12

Investigate connections within a wetland ecosystem

Students step into the heart of a thriving wetland ecosystem to uncover the secrets of its living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) components. Equipped with real scientific tools, they test water quality and benchmark their findings against Australian Standards—just like professional ecologists!

The adventure continues with a hands-on macroinvertebrate survey, using scooping techniques to reveal the tiny creatures that indicate ecosystem health in an urban setting.

Through immersive fieldwork, students investigate ecological roles, explore human impacts, and discover strategies for sustainable management. This program connects directly to Biology and Geography curricula, empowering students to ask big questions, collect authentic data, and build evidence-based conclusions for their own investigations.
