Quenda Cabins – A Fun, Hands-On Wildlife Activity for Your Class

Students will learn out about quendas, a native marsupial, and what they need to survive exploring the essential needs of wildlife eg. shelter, food and friends.

Help your students discover how artificial habitats can protect our native animals! In this engaging activity, students will learn why these refuges are important, talk about the pros and cons of creating them, and explore your school grounds to find the perfect spot.

Then, they’ll work together to build a quenda cabin using simple hand tools. Students will also become junior citizen scientists by helping track quenda sightings and sharing data with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

This activity is perfect for schools near bushland and gives students a practical way to care for local wildlife. Note: Refuges must be placed on school land.
