Quenda Cabins – A Hands-On Conservation Project for Your Students
Engage your students in real-world conservation by exploring the role of artificial habitats in protecting native fauna. Together, you’ll discuss the benefits and challenges of creating these refuges and investigate the best location on your school grounds for installation.
Students will then build an artificial habitat using basic hand tools and learn how to become citizen scientists by contributing to quenda counts and fauna data for the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
This activity is ideal for schools near native bushland and provides a practical way to connect students with local wildlife and conservation efforts. Note: Refuges must be placed on school land.
Duration: 1.5 hour. This program can be completed in 1 hour, however additional time may be required to complete cabin building post incursion.
COST: One class (up to 30 students) is $500 per hour or part thereof, second class, $425 per class incursion. Includes GST and materials
